With the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020, hand washing became the talk of the day. But what wasn't as widely discussed is this important custom’s history. Did you know, for example, that until the 18th-century doctors didn’t wash their hands? They believed diseases were spread by bad smells. This is the story of Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis who fought to convince the world of the importance of hand washing, and the tragic end he met.
